Nature in the Red: Powering the trillion-dollar nature transition economy  in Latin America and the Caribbean

This UNEP event explores the findings of the State of Finance for Nature 2026 report and their implications for the global transition to a nature-positive economy.

The State of Finance for Nature series tracks global trends in public and private investment in nature-based solutions, highlighting the scale of financing needed to address climate change, biodiversity loss, and land degradation. The 2026 edition shows a major imbalance in financial flows, with investment in activities that harm nature significantly outweighing funding directed towards protection and restoration.

The session unpacks the report’s key data and insights, including the introduction of the Nature Transition X-Curve, a framework designed to help governments, businesses, and financial institutions phase out harmful finance while scaling investment in nature-positive solutions.

By bringing together perspectives from policy, finance, and sustainability stakeholders, the event explores how redirecting financial flows can accelerate climate and biodiversity goals, support resilience, and unlock the potential of a trillion-dollar nature transition economy.
