Anti-Money Laundering (AML) - The Basics

English

This course provides foundational training on anti-money laundering (AML) for employees working across the gambling and gaming sector. It explains what money laundering is, why it matters to the industry, and how organisations and individuals help prevent it through effective AML practices.

Participants will learn how money laundering works across its three stages - placement, layering, and integration - and understand the legal responsibilities that apply to both organisations and staff. The course introduces the core principles of AML frameworks used across jurisdictions and explains how a risk-based approach supports customer risk assessment and due diligence.

The training also covers customer due diligence obligations, ongoing monitoring, the role of the three lines of defence, and how to recognise transaction, payment, and behavioural red flags that may indicate suspicious activity. It explains when and how suspicious activity should be reported to financial intelligence units, and outlines the risks associated with tipping-off.

Real enforcement case studies from the gambling sector illustrate how AML failures occur in practice and highlight the consequences for organisations and individuals.

By the end of this course, learners will understand their role in identifying risks, reporting concerns appropriately, and supporting effective AML compliance within their organisation.
